Recently we gathered at a funeral for one of our dear brothers in Christ. His funeral was one of victory, celebrating Skip’s life here on earth and one of challenge, calling all to call upon the name of the Lord and be saved.
As I looked around I saw a sanctuary filled with people who wanted to honor Skip by being present at his funeral. There were far more people there than normally turns out for a Sunday service. This led me to one conclusion. There are churches on every corner with a variety of styles of worship for people to choose from, preaching on many television channels, radio and internet. But it is a relationship that affects peoples’ lives. John 13:34-35 says “A new command I give you: Love one another, As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Skip lived his life pointing others to Jesus and he lived with a love and compassion for people that spoke truth to them. He was genuine in his walk with Christ and people recognized it. They responded to it and when the time came they wanted to honor Skip’s life.
This challenged me. What do others see in me? Do they know I am a Christian by my love? What kind of impact am I making on the people around me? Lord, help me today to be a person of love so that others would see you in my life.
